The food is delicious, the environment is clean everywhere, and the people are very friendly. There are 56 ethnic groups in China, and all ethnic groups live in harmony. There are no racial or religious issues in China. There is no rape, theft, kidnapping, or robbery. The scenery is beautiful, the history and culture are profound, the people are friendly, the technology is developed, and the prices are low. It is the biggest regret not to visit China once in life.

I live near Binghamton and go there frequently. The section of the city you represented as "Binghamton" certainly does exist, but I've never seen it. You didn't go downtown and see the real city. You avoided showing all of the vibrant and living areas. The Binghamton area as a whole has many successful businesses, including a number of manufacturing companies. I myself am retired from Universal Instruments, a company that makes assembly machines for the electronics industry. The phone you recorded this on may well have been manufactured (in China) using automated assembly machines designed and built in Conklin, NY, just outside Binghamton. Binghamton is the former home of the Link trainer. Though the company was destroyed by a corporate raider, it spun off many smaller simulator companies that are still going today. Binghamton Simulator and I3 among them. Binghamton is home to Dick's Sporting Goods, which has stores all across America. The old Eureka Tent company is now owned by Johnson Outdoors Gear Inc., but is still operating and making products in the area. I could go on, but I think I've made my point. While I understand and agree with much of what you said, specifically about the off shoring of US manufacturing, focusing only on the saddest parts of a community and saying it represents the entire community isn't honest journalism. I think this could have been much better if told in a more honest fashion. For example, Endicott was the original home of IBM and that company is no longer there, but IBM is still a major US company. They chose to move to other areas in New York State and other states (Austin Texas for instance) for various business reasons. The IBM buildings you showed are slated for demolition while some other parts of the campus are still in use by other companies. The plan is to bring battery manufacturing there for the electric car industry. This is being driven by research done at Binghamton University. The fact is that like many other cities, the Binghamton area is undergoing a major transition. Many old industries are dead or dying while other industries are still doing well and new ones are coming up.

I'm new to your channel and after visiting WV with you, I really enjoy your take on reality. I was expecting to hear mockery and disrespect for the people of these depressed areas but, you have shown and received the total opposite. It's sad to see greed destroy economies, communities and environments but judging those left behind to suffer would be terribly unfair. Your willingness to call out those responsible without having a political axe to grind is refreshing. Keep up the good work, I look forward to viewing more.

Northern West Virginia is beautiful! Personally I think u should visit the rest of the state! The Ohio valley area, Wheeling W.V. but also Charleston and surrounding areas are decent but being from the Wheeling area I'm partial!

Grew up decades ago all over upstate. Both sets of grandparents lived in Rome when I was young (my father's parents were from Manhattan originally). I spent a few years in Rome as a small kid, but also Utica, Westmoreland, Schenectady, Albany, and just north of Syracuse, where I went to high school and then fled to NYC/LI. It has deteriorated a lot over the past years. I had family there so would visit and saw the decline. It was not the place for me anyway, but it is sad to see.

Great presentation Sabbatical. You are absolutely correct about the distinction between NYC and New York State. They are separate entities. I live in New York State formerly from Brooklyn, I like the slower pace up here and being closer to more natural surroundings. I think as you said that is a shame that so much industry and manufacturing is gone. The state as whole had many big companies years ago Hopefully things will turn around ------in the future.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, ny for the first 21 years of my life, then moved upstate to the capital region, I love upstate it’s the best part of ny, the beautiful nature the small little towns. but I have never seen such poverty and decline anywhere else in the country as I have seen in upstate ny. The state is and has been destroyed by by certain political policies and its unfortunate that me and my family had to leave the state.
